Biography
Hello I’m Katie an art psychotherapist registered with HCPC and BAAT. I have experience of working with young people that have experienced challenges with expressing their feeling verbally, neurodivergence, trauma, hearing voices, hallucinations, PTSD, flashbacks, nightmares and attachment related issues.
I’m currently also working as an art psychotherapist working with young people that have experienced domestic abuse and or sexual abuse in one-to-one therapy and helping to run a psychoeducation peer support group for young girls (13+) that have experienced sexual abuse. Having understanding relating to assessment, safeguarding and working with short term therapy support.
My way of working is person centred, supporting young people to use art material to help process their experiences in a way that helps them to better understand themselves and overcome some of the difficulties they are experiencing in an environment that feels safe and gives them the space to explore difficult feelings and thoughts. Using approaches such as art therapy activities based on research around attachment difficulties, narrative therapy approaches, grounding techniques to help regulate emotions and somatic art therapy ways of working based in research around how trauma can be stored in the body.
Outside of work I enjoy walking, badminton and chilling out watching TV. My ethos behind my work is that every positive interaction can help create positive change in a young person life. My values are based in wanting to work with families to support young people to make the changes they want to see for themselves.
