Headteacher School 1

As a career-long advocate for play, art and filial therapy in schools, I have always known the importance of using BAPT registered professionals and have experienced first hand the wonderful work that happens between a child processing trauma and an experienced, well trained therapist. What I have now come to realise is that it’s also important to have the right therapist for the right children. Working with Sandra, through equipt, has enabled me to be able to select therapists who not only suit the needs of the type of community that my school serves, but also work in a way that meets the needs of the staff and professionals working alongside the children.

We are lucky enough to be able to work with Chiomah, Lindsey and even Sandra herself, who have all already such a huge impact on the lives of children. I am always, and will always be, in awe of the difference that high quality therapy makes and will continue to prioritise mental health in children.

The therapists who have worked in my school have offered a range of therapies and are skilled enough to suggest different approaches for different children, parents and situations. We have even used our therapists for staff supervision, which again have been of significant high quality.

I cannot recommend working with a trusted company such as eQuiPT enough. They truly are the M&S of therapists!

I am an Post Adoption Social worker who has  worked with Sandra with a number of children and families that have complex emotional and psychological needs due to the  trauma, which the children  have experienced due to neglect, abuse and separation.

Sandra works  well with both the  professionals and families. She is a constant source of support and knowledge. The Filial therapy sessions are transforming,  equipping families with the tools to parent their children successfully. The children all love their play sessions and are always excited for the next.

The best thing about working with Sandra is when she has connected with the child and family and the intervention  is making  a difference. Confident parents, children have better relationships with their parents, children coping better in school, making friendships. The excitement that Sandra gets from this  is testimony  of a job well done.

The therapeutic service that eQuiPT/Sandra Georgeson provide is very well placed to support families.

We have very limited therapeutic support services for Adopted children experiencing trauma and attachment difficulties within our local area. Therefore, we have to source out.

This service is more local and well situated, has a great understanding of the therapeutic needs of children who are adopted or in Foster care and what support each individual family/child would benefit from.

Everything has worked that we have done, we took on board what was recommended although felt unsure how it would work and  how much play could work and therapeutic language. We were prepared to try new approaches and now when we look back we can see how things have changed.Even family members have noticed the positive changes

You shared with us all the qualities of a good therapeutic relationship. You listened to us carefully and supportively and always followed through on actions and solved problems as they arose. You were flexible about how we worked together, especially when we were finding supporting our daughter in the play sessions difficult, you offered potential solutions.

You were very clear about how the process would work and supported us through learning how to do special play.  Written reports helped us put our case to school for more support for for our daughter.

We’ve appreciated your good-humour, kindness, consistency, professionalism and support.

We felt very supported and listened to and felt our opinions were heard and The equipt therapist was amazing in problem solving some issues. We are very happy and grateful for the support we received.

We feel more confident that we understand behaviours and underlying anxieties

Empathetic and Reflective  language has helped us to listen and opened up communication.

I thought Suzanne always approached the therapy and related discussions with the upmost professionalism which led to a mutual trust.  She discussed the issues with me and we agreed a way forward between us.  She was never forceful with her views, even though she is the qualified professional.

She allowed flexibility when considering the best approach to issues and she was always happy for me to raise issues and concerns about our son, as well as listening to my ideas and suggestions.  She certainly helped me in solving the difficulties and many of the issues, such as sleeping difficulties.

Suzanne has spoken to our school on our behalf, providing them with information to understand my sons behaviour surrounding anxiety and adoption issues, which we where very grateful for.

Therapy was in place quite quickly which Helped doing the therapy together.

It has helped a lot we are a happier family and find it easier to cope and have a closer bond as a family.

Our therapist helped so much and couldn’t have wished for a better therapist; she is amazing a great at her job and we can’t thank her enough.

We were not aware of the many ways in which a child expresses their fears, anxieties and coping mechanisms. We saw “play” as it was, a child enjoying themselves however the reality is far more complex. The realization of this however is comforting and allows us to learn to “listen” in another manner. Since understanding what play means to children, it has been easier to “play”. We now feel we are good at creating a sensory environment for our daughter which she thrives in and it is evident the fun does not end with the child in these cases.

We feel much more confident as parents, I spend a lot of time reflecting on interactions I have with our daughter and  my confidence as a parent is a struggle sometimes but I know that without the therapy I would have struggled far more. There have been vast improvements all round for our daughter and us respectively. A lot of that has been directly linked with Filial therapy.

Our therapist has helped give us insight and special play has helped us understand the children and their behaviour more. Using reflective language and listening helps us to understand what our child is saying.

We Feel happier and confident as parents and have the children’s trust in us.

Definitely more confident as parents – we have benefitted massively from talking things through with Suzanne and reflecting on things that did not go well and think about how we could do things differently. We can notice the signs of upset and intervene soonerand our daughter can recover more quickly from feeling upset and she accepts help more readily.  We have learned that wondering aloud and being present through difficult feelings has helped her trust us.
